CALLING ALL DONORS AND DOERS: STAND AND BE COUNTED!

What can you do? What can you give?

GO THE DISTANCE WITH US. Be a donor or a doer–or both!

YOU CAN HELP FINANCIALLY. We’re appealing to you, those who refuse to give up on saving Newcomb College. Funds are critically needed to continue the case to Save Newcomb. It was always anticipated that appeals would be necessary to prevail. We strongly believe that the law is on our side. What we need are funds to sustain the effort through the full legal process.

This has always been a marathon not a sprint. Along the way, we have followed the channels to the Louisiana Supreme Court where we received the legal ruling to continue. Now, we anticipate returning to that court for the ultimate decision.

WRITE A CHECK OR USE YOUR CREDIT CARD TO MAKE A DONATION
. The most important thing you can do is to send a donation to us right away. The more substantial the better, but all donations are important and are welcomed.

SEND CHECKS TO THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS:

REACH OUT. Beyond writing a check, there is much that you can do:

COPY AND FORWARD THIS MESSAGE. Many of the more than 18,000 alums of Newcomb do not receive this newsletter. Please copy and forward it to all supporters or potential supporters you know. Send us their email and snail mail addresses to add to the database. Encourage them to donate to Save Newcomb!

RALLY SUPPORT IN YOUR AREA. We have lists of alums by city. We will help you convene a gathering of alums to build support. Let us know, and we will send you the list for your city plus helpful hints and what to say.

MAKE PHONE CALLS. Will you make phone calls to build support? Again, we can provide names and a script.

WRITE LETTERS TO EDITORS. Local newspapers are always interested to hear from their readers. Write a letter and build support in your community. Contact us for “talking points” if you need them.

BE PRESENT! ATTEND THE “BRING NEWCOMB HOME” RECEPTION ON OCTOBER 9TH at 3:00 PM at 5005 ST. CHARLES AVENUE (CORNER OF ROBERT STREET). Contact us at info@newcomblives.com for information or to let us know that you are coming.

WE ARE MRS. NEWCOMB’S DAUGHTERS

Mrs. Newcomb did more than write a check. She convinced Tulane to establish Newcomb College in 1886 at a time when women had no power except, perhaps, the power to persuade. Mrs. Newcomb gave her heart and soul to the college in its fledgling years and took up residence at the Washington Avenue campus to nurture her dream. She even fended off her family by taking pains to write a will that would withstand their contests and would succeed in directing all of her wealth to sustain the college as a perpetual memorial to her beloved daughter.

Her financial resources were necessary, but this was not all she contributed for Newcomb College to exist and thrive. Her tenacious loyalty and unyielding vision, as well as what she gave and what she did, created and sustained Newcomb. Mrs. Newcomb said, “In this college my daughter lives again to me. She does not seem to be dead, but lives again in this college and in these girls.” Those of us who are the alumnae of Newcomb College are part of that legacy. How can we let Mrs. Newcomb and future generations of young women down at this moment of crisis? If there is something we can do or give, this is the precise moment to do it if we are to continue to say, “Newcomb Lives!”
